This post is about my dislike of the default blog presentation. I’m talking about how the latest post automatically shoots to the top of the page when published.
Now I’m a conventional reader and I like to read (european) language text from left to right and in a chronological sequence that follows the flow of the author in the order that the author intends me to read it. I’m comfortable with this. When I’m reading, I get into the flow and all the background stuff just melts away. The words just move into my head and I see the world the author has created. If I want to, I’ll revisit my favorite books again and again.
Blogs are different – what you see first is what the author wrote last. This is fine if you want to read one post a day in a serial fashion like reading the daily newspaper. I read more books than newspapers, so for me it’s more comfortable to be able to read at least a chapter before putting a book down – if I can put it down!
Well it turns out I’m pretty conventional when it comes to being an author myself and I want my readers to be able to read a day’s blog in the order I posted them. This makes me an unconventional blogger – but hey, I’m not the only one. WordPress has the facility to change the post date (and time) of your blog post so that you can order your posts in the why you like them. To bring a post to the top of the page, just bring the post date and time forward. You can find this function by edit post under the name ‘Post Timestamp’. You can even move the post date to a future date. Go on, give yourself a little leeway – or if you are the type that needs a little stress – a deadline.
